How to Find Arrest Records for Free in Hamilton County

In Hamilton County, online portals are the primary sources for free arrest record searches. For example, the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office Inmate Information and Booking Reports portals help the general public find and view local arrest and booking information.

While access to these repositories is provided at no cost, the data retrieved is strictly for informational purposes. Consequently, such records are not intended for use in formal legal or official proceedings. Furthermore, as free public databases may contain clerical errors, redacted details, or outdated facts, users should exercise due diligence when reviewing and interpreting the results.

Hamilton County Arrest Report

Law enforcement agencies generate arrest records and arrest reports upon booking an individual into custody after an arrest. Whereas arrest records are the public-facing summary entries, arrest reports are the formal narrative accounts, typically consisting of the arresting officer's firsthand observations, probable cause for the arrest, witness or victim statements, and the arrest subject's personal identifiers. Arrest reports may be disclosed publicly; however, when tied to active investigations, the standard agency response is typically one of confidentiality per the Tennessee Public Records Act's statutory exceptions.

Once the court completes the expungement process, the expungement order will be sent to the arresting agency, the Hamilton County Jail, the Tennessee Department of Correction (TDOC), and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation. Each agency has its own timelines for expunging the charges.

More information about Tennessee Expungements is provided on the state judiciary's website.
